If you’re anything like me, you’ve been running around singing Christmas songs ever since Thanksgiving (or maybe even before)! There is just something different about this season that rings differently. Maybe it’s the music, maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the holiday parties, maybe it’s the presents. Whatever it is, it seems to bring a little joy to our hearts.
This week, our theme in worship is Joy. And yet, as I think about what brings me joy in this season, all of the things I offered above do bring some joy, but those things can often change at the flip of a switch. What we are reminded of this week is that Christ is the source of true joy, and that is a joy that can never be stripped away.
As we reflect on this Advent season, we know that Christ coming into the world is the embodiment of God With Us, Emmanuel. Ever since the Old Testament times, God has promised to be faithful to us, to never leave nor forsake us. That promise is still true today.
The divine presence among us in the world is the source of true joy illuminating everything. It is something that humans cannot tarnish or take away no matter how great the effort may be. God’s joy is everlasting and eternal. It is the source that fuels and sustains us and allows us to experience the goodness of life.
This week, pay attention to the presence of God in your life and allow joy to rise in your spirit. Maybe play a few Christmas tunes and get in the Christmas spirit. Reflect on the presence of Emmanuel and allow joy to live in your heart. As you experience joy, may you be compelled to share it with those around you!
Joy to the World, the Lord is come!
Join us this Sunday at 11am in person or online as we worship and experience the joy of God together. We hope to see you then!
Peace and blessings,
Pastor Kipp
