This may be a question you are often asked by friends and those close to you. The motivation behind it is that we never want to be a burden on people. But what we often forget in this question is what real love looks like. Real love for our friends and family goes out of its way no matter the cost or inconvenience.
This week’s scripture comes from 1 Samuel 3:1-21 when Samuel is called by God. All throughout the text as Samuel hears a calling, he responds by saying, “Here I am.” At first he thought it was Eli calling him only later to find out it was God all along. Regardless of the calling, Samuel portrays a faithful willingness that can speak to each of us.
In the present time, what are we truly willing to do? Are we ready to do what God is asking of us? Are we willing to help our friends and loved ones in need? Are we willing to stand with our neighbors in harm’s way?
Regardless of the circumstance, God simply longs for us to have hearts of willingness to stand up and serve. Where is the need here and now? I pray that each of us has the courage to say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me.” Might we each be willing servants ready to share in the love and grace of God.
I hope you will join us for worship this Sunday at 11am in person or online. Might we come together to worship and serve our God amidst all that is going on around us.
Peace and blessings,
Pastor Kipp
